Armyworm Mythimna separata is polyphagus pest on graminaceous crops. The proteins and proteases are studied during development of M.separata.During embryogenesis, larval growth and metamorphosis the synthesis of new proteins is corelated with development of embryo, larva and pupa.In male adults increased amount of proteins is associated with spermatogenesis, secretion of accessory glands and internal development. While in later period of development the decreased amount of protein content indicates utilization of proteins for energy production. Increased amount of protein in female adults is due to the synthesis of yolk proteins in fat body. The decline of protein in the later period is due to gradual oviposition and inactive physiological status.High activity of proteases during early period of embryogenesis is related to the degradation of yolk proteins and low activity shows decreased catabolic role of enzymes.Gradual decrease in protease activity on 6 to 8 day of metamorphosis indicates histogenesis.Steady decrease in enzyme activity from 1 to 9 day suggests decrease in protein in fat body of adult males and less role of proteases after egg laying in fat body of adult females.
