Nigeria's Ooni of Ife and Alaafin of Oyo Imbroglio: The way out

The book is about intractable conflict between two foremost traditional rulers in Nigeria: Ooni of Ife and Alaafin of Oyo in the South-Western Nigeria but reverberated across the entire country. Caused by political feud between the first Premier of Western Nigeria and his deputy - Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief SL Akintola - that defied all efforts both under civilian and military administrations in Nigeria. But former President Olusegun Obasanjo, an Owu Chief at Abeokuta, in Ogun-State, has dabbled into the imbroglio by subtly carving different roles for these two powerful monarchs in Yorubaland in particular and Nigeria as a whole. Ooni, looking like Queen Elizabeth of England while Alaafin takes after Prime Minister Theresa May. Locally, while Ooni looks like Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, as President, under parliamentary system of government, Alaafin is much more like Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa. While Ooni looks like Head of State of Yorubaland, Alaafin looks like Head of Government of Yoruba country. How Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, and former President of Nigeria, is succeeding in this enterprise is the subject of this paper.
