Islam and Transformation of Kwatarkwashi Emirate

This book examines the role of Islam in the transformation of ancient Kwatarkwashi which is believed to have existed over six hundred years ago. The area in the past was known as one of the centers of traditional religious and magical practices in the then Hausa Land. Some of these practices include: Magiro, Kyauka, Daukar Maiki, Baura game, and others. However, after the coming of Islam in the area such practices vanished and were replaced by Islamic norms and practices. Thus, this book discusses the nature of some of the practices before the coming of Islam. On the other hand, some prominent of the agents who contributed towards the eradication of such practices were identified. The book further analyzes the changes brought by Islam on the life of the people in the area. In other words, the religious, social, economic, political and educational life of the people in the area had undergone tremendous changes to Islamic one as elaborated in the book.
