In this book I attempted to tackle the challenges of intensive agriculture and sustainability in Egypt. I reflected my vision of crop intensification as a complex, integrative subject incorporating many disciplines. My experience has been primarily with water-limited agriculture; hence, there is an emphasis on the role of water in the agronomy of agricultural systems. All common aspects of crop management and productivity are covered. I provide relevant examples from different cropping systems. I have, also, tried to concentrate on the analysis of crop productivity processes thus identifying the main factors affecting management decisions and how to get quantitative answers to agronomic problems in the context of making current agricultural systems more sustainable. The book offers examples of controversial decisions in Egyptian agriculture and discusses their implications. Risk analysis in agriculture is then highlighted, and the concepts of risk and uncertainty are explained. The book presents a general approach for risk management in agriculture as well as an overview of formal decision analysis to serve as a guide for the agricultural leadership . Prof. Ahmed Said M. Kamel
