Bamboo, a multipurpose agro-forestry crop, has been an integral part of the Indian culture. With a large variety of traditional uses, bamboo has been aptly described as the ‘poor man’s timber’, ‘green gold’, ‘friend of the people’ and ‘cradle to coffin timber’. For diversity study 30 plants were selected from two trible talukas of Banaskantha district. Which possess hilly-forest area of Aravali hills. From each taluka 5 locations were identified where maximum Bambusa arundinacea are grown. The in-situ phenotypic diversity in Bamboo (Bambusa arundinacea) is existing within and among two talukas of Banaskantha district. There is geographical diversity in Bambusa arundinacea of two talukas Danta and Amirgadh of Banaskantha (Gujarat), which also corresponding to the molecular diversity exhibited by RAPD markers. The diverse genotypes selected after geographical and molecular differences are shown differential response for in-vitro micropropagation. The MS medium supplemented with 3.0 mg/l BAP can be utilized for shoot proliferation of Bambusa arundinacea. IBA up to 3.0 mg/l could not induced in-vitro rooting therefore higher concentration of IBA or another rooting hormone may be tried.
