In Nepal, child labor was not a serious issue during the decade of 1970s and 1980s although it was in practice even before pre-industrial period. The government of Nepal was silent about this issue even after other countries in the world were seriously implementing various policies to control it. The issue of child labour has been regarded as serious issue only after the restoration of democracy in Nepal. After then the issue was taken as an integral part of policies by the government to protect the rights of children. Child labour is a serious threat in the path of high, sustainable and broad based economic development since in the long run it has negative effects in production, employment and investment. Child labour should eliminate since it is the sources of poverty and poverty of one nation is the threat of everywhere.
