Activities of CBOs and NGOs in the Rural Development of Benue State

This study on the activities of Community-Based Organizations /Non-Governmental Organizations in the rural development of Benue State-Nigeria, was informed by the assumption that CBOs/NGOs are vanguards of development in local communities and the realization that their involvement in the planning, mobilization and management of community resources and monitoring of development projects and programs is the sure way in enhancing capacity building, poverty reduction and sustainable development in rural communities. This study therefore provided a comprehensive information about CBOs/NGOs development activities in the area and categorized them according to their service type and thematic focus, bringing to light their socioeconomic impacts on the communities within which they operate and factors that hindered some of them from achieving their set goals and objectives. Findings in the study revealed the vital roles played by these organizations such as mobilization of community-based resources for participatory rural development, provision of basic social services, financial services, capacity building and advocacy among other services to communities within which they operate.
