Freedom of Speech and Journalism in Kashmir

Today freedom of speech and expression are internationally recognized rights. But how much of these are enjoyed by the journalist working in the valley? This piece of work unfolds trauma which is being faced by the Journalists who are working on the razor edge in the Indian occupied Kashmir. The author narrates the past history of Journalism in Kashmir, while throwing light on some of the basic rights of freedom of speech and expression under different instruments to the grounds of restrictions, pressures which not only have witnessed the attacks on personal lives of these watch dogs but has also been the reason of executing their duties in this choking environment. The book also contains a number of expressions of journalists that they encounter while performing their professional duties and how freedom of speech and expression is recognized in Kashmir valley. The work is the result of painstaking research in a state where no authentic record of the people struggle, their sufferings and problems is available; the author has collected the data by digging into the pages of some newspapers and establishing contacts with the journalists.
