The sustenance of life on earth solely depends on water. Groundwater utilization dates far back as the history of mankind itself. Growth of population, agriculture and industry has compelled an indiscriminate exploitation of this resource. Repeated monsoon failures and poor recharge conditions further complicate groundwater exploration. Geophysical methods play a major role to delineate the geological structures favorable for occurrence and movement of groundwater. Although geophysical methods are being routinely used for exploration, often it becomes a challenge because of various factors such as geometry and depth of aquifer and yield of groundwater particularly in a complex geological environ. This book, therefore provides an insight for mapping of geological structures employing an integrated geophysical approach comprising magnetic, electrical resistivity, seismic refraction methods and correlative study with well data to ensure a reliable investigation. Thus, the authors believe that the field investigations presented will no doubt throw some light on this vital subject and will be a good guide to groundwater professionals as well as to academics.
