One of the objectives of orthodontic diagnosis is to detect the association between malocclusion and skeletal disproportions. Consideration of facial type plays an important role in formulation of an orthodontic treatment plan and prognosis of treatment. Of particular importance is vertical relationship, that is, whether an individual is long faced or short faced.A relationship may exist between the structure of the frontal part of the maxilla and mandible and the lower face height, such that, in case with an open bite or deep bite, the vertical dentoalveolar development may be inappropriate to compensate for the large or small distance between the jaws.Investigating the relationship between the amount of overbite and the maxillary & mandibular morphology is of atmost importance in treating individuals with short or long face.
