About 0.5 million people in India die every year from causes that could have been prevented by organ transplants that were not available to them. Organ donation rates in India sit at 0.01 percent. Every nine minutes another person is added to the transplant waiting list. seventeen people die each day waiting for an organ transplant. Three lakh patients wait for organ donation in the country and the country’s increase in donors has not kept pace with demand; experts say the country urgently needs to increase its deceased donation rate, and there should be greater awareness among ICU doctors and families on how one deceased donor can save several lives. We need more awareness, persuasion, and action plans from government bodies, NGOs, and different institutions working to save lives through organ donation.
