Heterocyclic compounds have captured our attention for many reasons, mainly due to their biological activities. Benzotriazole is a heterocyclic compound containing three nitrogen atoms, with the chemical formula C6H5N3. Benzotriazole derivatives act as a precursor in organic chemistry and have proven to be rich sources of medicinal agents. Benzotriazoles have been widely used in synthetic intermediates and industrial applications, such as anticorrosive agents, photo stabilizers, dyes, photographic materials, and agrochemicals and there are numerous examples in the literature including anti-HIV activity, antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria, anti-allergic, anti-convulsant. N-alkylated benzotriazole derivatives show antibacterial and antifungal activity, several benzotriazoles and its derivatives have pharmaceutical importance such as antibacterial, antifungal, antihistaminic, antitubercular and also used as antiseptic, anticoagulant agent.
