Migration and adult mortality, usually related to HIV and AIDS have been on the spotlight for some time in the media, academia and at various development-related conferences. There is a general consensus that HIV is wrecking havoc particularly in developing countries in Africa. However, debate is still raging on the real contribution of migration in the development process. The present study approaches these issues from a demographic perspective. In particular, the study aimed to investigate the impact of migration and adult mortality on household labour supply among rural households in Chiweshe communal lands, Zimbabwe. The study comes to a conclusion that the impacts of migration and mortality are difficult to separate from the general economic and political context in which the demographic processes take place.
