The role of guidance and counseling among adolescents

This book explains how for last decades students have been going on the rampage and destroying property, raping, burning and killing of fellow students as it happened in Nyeri High School in 1991 and Kyanguli Secondary School, Machakos in 2002. In 1991 students of St Kizito Secondary School, Meru went on rampage, raped and killed 19 girls. Several students are reported to have succumbed to alcohol and drug abuse. Academic performance is said to have taken a nosedive for some students. Kamunyu elucidates to the reader how traditionally, conflict between parents-teachers and adolescents have been attributed to adolescent rebellion. Traditionally, guidance and counseling together with corporal punishment were used to instill discipline unto the children. Abolition of corporal punishment in schools in Kenya and the recommendation that guidance and counseling be used to modify behavioral problems have generated a lot of debate among the various academics.It is with this in mind that Kamunyu investigated the role of guidance and counseling in modifying behavior. This book is highly recommended for the teachers, students and researchers who are doing more on guidance and counseling.
