This book depicts the social issues in caring for vulnerable people especially children living with HIV and AIDS in a rural setting in a resource-limited country- Malawi. Majority of Malawi's population lives in rural areas (85%) and yet this population's needs are rarely met. One of the critical issues that have affected and shaken the roots of safety nets in Malawi culture is the HIV and AIDS epidemic. HIV and AIDS have disrupted cultural norms so much that communities in the rural areas have stopped helping each other as the case had been due to increased numbers of people dying, the prolonged illness that depletes the limited resources the family had by the time the HIV and AIDS patient dies. This book has also depicted how women are heavily involved in caring the chronically ill children over and above looking after well children. The survival of any child depends on the caring of the mother and in this book, the survival of a child living with HIV and AIDS solely depended on the survival of the woman caregiver who most often was the biological mother and was living with HIV and AIDS too.
