INTRODUCTION TO CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION

This book presents an elaborate introduction to the concepts of citizenship, citizenship education, marriage as a major means of acquiring citizenship, and the role of citizenship education in nation building. The fundamental rights of citizens, ways of safeguarding the rights and the obligations of the citizens to the state or country are also duly highlighted.The impacts of democracy to pupils’ rights in Nigeria and the parts played by schools in handling citizenship education have also been discussed alongside the contemporary citizenship issues and the challenges to national conception on citizenship.The writer is of the opinion that the citizens (including netizens), non-citizens (aliens) and even denizens should know about the legal, civil, social, economic and cultural rights of the country they reside, in order that they perform their obligations and responsibilities well. The state should on its part uphold and preserve the rights of citizens effectively and efficiently.
